WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR JAPAN?
We’ve had a tough 2024, facing several critical market situations, could influenced by several reasons below :
- Economic Threats:
- The global economy remains highly uncertain due to geopolitical risks like Russia’s prolonged invasion of Ukraine and the worsening situation in the Middle East.
- The ongoing depreciation of the yen against the U.S. dollar has kept resource prices high, impacting Japan’s construction markets (Not only for the raw materials, effecting all major markets).
- High raw material and energy costs have led manufacturers and distributors to pass on increased costs to customers, affecting profitability.
- Market Threats:
- Manpower shortages have hit the construction industry hard, leading to serious labor shortages.
- In Japanese words “DANKAINOSEDAI (The Impact of the Retirement of Japan’s Baby Boomers”)” interesting report here “ESRI国際コンファレンス「日本の高齢化:団塊の世代引退の影響」(概要)”
- Industry Threats:
- The “2025 problem” refers to the aging workforce in the construction industry, with many baby boomers retiring, exacerbating the labor shortage.
- The “2024 problem” has impacted the overall construction industry, especially in terms of resources and manpower.
